요즘 왜 여기 저기서 "걸프"가 문제죠?
멕시코만 기름유출 사고가 나기 하루 전,
골드만 삭스가 대형 베팅을 한 것으로 드러났다고 합니다.
제가 경제 용어는 잘 모르지만(풋 옵션이라 그러나요?),
911 사건 몇일 전에도 대형 금융사들이 베팅을 해서 떼돈 벌었었죠?
골드만에서 근무하는 Fabrice Tourree라는 작자가 여친에게 보낸 메일이 발견된 모양인데,
거기에 이렇게 적혀 있었다고 합니다. (제가 약간 애드립을...)
"시추선 하나가 박살나고 우리는 돈을 긁어 모으게 되어 있다네...
그쪽 동네 물고기랑 새들 다 뒤져도 내가 알게 뭐람!"
원문은 다음과 같습니다.
"One oil rig goes down and we're going to be rolling in dough. Suck it, fishies and birdies!"
그나저나 이번 사고의 여파가 상당히 심각할 것으로 예상되는데,
오메가 3 사재기 해야 하는거 아닌지 모르겠네요...ㅠㅠ

Goldman Sachs Reveals it Shorted Gulf of Mexico
NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report) -
In what is looming as another public relations predicament for Goldman Sachs, the banking giant admitted today that it made "a substantial financial bet against the Gulf of Mexico" one day before the sinking of an oil rig in that body of water.
The new revelations came to light after government investigators turned up new emails from Goldman employee Fabrice "Fabulous Fab" Tourre in which he bragged to a girlfriend that the firm was taking a "big short" position on the Gulf.
"One oil rig goes down and we're going to be rolling in dough," Mr. Tourre wrote in one email. "Suck it, fishies and birdies!"
The news about Goldman's bet against the Gulf comes on the heels of embarrassing revelations that the firm had taken a short position on Lindsay Lohan's acting career. More here.
